Description
The History of Onicha-Olona Kingdom: This is the third volume of the history of a kingdom of warriors, farmers, hunters, intellectuals, politicians, and craftsmen and women having highly religious and cultural values. This is also about their wars, settlements, and formations, rise of the kingdom and subsequent leadership tussles. This volume 3 delves deeper into the history of the kingdom going back to late 1100 AD, covering pre-colonial and post-colonial era. It brings to bear the ancestral heritage of not only the Onicha-Olona community but also the ANIOMA people in general. The author also established the Ancestral connections of the ANIOMA communities. In this epic historical documentation, the author bridged the gap between ancient events and modern era events helping readers to get abreast with historical facts that were not in the public domain before now. This historical account is also backed by numerous independent referenced sources that corroborated the accounts in this book, giving it the exceptional authenticity by independently validating oral traditions and historical accounts with other sources. Furthermore, the authenticity of this book also is grounded in the caliber of Elders and Chiefs cited by the Author in this book. In this book, readers will learn and understand that while ANIOMA community is inside the Ancestral Land of Ancient Igodomigodo people, the individual communities inside ANIOMA trace their Ancestral roots to four Ancestral groups: Idu (Benin), Igala, Igbo, and Olukumi (Yoruba). The book also elucidates that the Igala, Igbo, and Olukumi (Yoruba) groups in ANIOMA migrated from their ancestral places of origin into the Land of Igodomigodo to join the native Igodomigodo (Idu) (modern day Benin people) who were living in the less occupied areas of the Ancient Igodomigodo. In this book the author revealed the predominant Benin royal, cultural and traditional heritage inherent in ANIOMA communities showcasing the cultural elements and artefacts that proves the ANIOMA community's cultural similarities with Benin than with Igala and Igbo. Readers will also learn and understand that in ANIOMA, there are less Olukwumi (Yourba) communities than there are Igbo communities and less Igbo communities than there are Igala communities and likewise, there are less Igala communities than there are Idu (Benin) communities. In summary, contrary to the post-colonial impression that ANIOMA is an Igbo land, readers will realize that ANIOMA is a multi-ethnic community and that the people of ANIOMA are mostly of Idu (Benin) origin, followed by Igala, Igbo and Yoruba in that order. Moreover, the book reveals that the modern spoken Igbo-like language of ANIOMA came as a result of British colonization of the people in the West Bank of the Niger with English and Igbo Languages, mainly after the amalgamation that gave birth to Nigeria as a country. The colonization with English and Igbo Languages drove the ancestral Idu/Edo, Igala and Olukumi Languages of the people to near-extinct state with the British-imposed colonial Igbo Language gaining more dominance, post-colonial era. However, the original words from the Ancestral Languages of the various ethnic groups are still retained in the language and dialects of ANIOMA people even though the ancestral languages were Igbonised and Anglicized. The author also strongly advocates for peace, unity and mutual respect among the various ethnic groups that make up the ANIOMA community.
