Prepare a book list for a buyback inquiry

A clear list helps identify the books you want to sell. You do not need special supplies to send an initial inquiry. Start with the books' details and an honest description of their condition.

1. Record the book's identity

Look for an ISBN on the book or its copyright page. Copy it exactly, including a final X if present. Include the title, edition, and binding. If you cannot find an ISBN, say so and provide the identifying details you can see; do not substitute the identifier of a similar book.

2. Separate different copies

Use a new row for a different ISBN, edition, binding, or condition. A student edition and a teacher edition should not be counted as the same item. Add the quantity of copies represented by each row.

3. Describe condition

Note writing, highlighting, completed workbook pages, library or school markings, cover or binding damage, and missing pages or supplements. State only what you have checked about access codes or accompanying media. Leave labels in place while the inventory is being reviewed.

4. Add the practical information

Include the organization or contact name, city and state, approximate total quantity, and any deadline or access restrictions. Mark estimated quantities clearly.

A simple list format

Use these column headings in a spreadsheet or paste the same details into your message:

Title | ISBN | Edition | Binding | Quantity | Condition notes

If you already have an inventory file, email it to info@goodbookscompany.org with the location and timing. You can also paste a list into our buyback inquiry form.

Wait for handling instructions

Do not ship books or arrange a collection until the details have been confirmed. If an offer is made, follow its instructions for eligibility, packing, collection or freight, inspection, and payment.
