The Epiphany, Volume One, begins an exploration into the historic, spiritual hypothesis: To be human is to be more spirit than flesh; more Soul than body. In the words of 20th Century priest and scientist, Teilhard de Chardin: We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, but are spiritual beings having a human experience. As we age, it is not unusual for us to experience the imposing awareness of our impermanence factor—impending morbidity and mortality. This may have a disheartening, depressing effect. Here, spiritual awakening is most beneficial. Our Sages suggest our inevitable demise may not be as grim as we imagine. The Epiphany explores what these teachers recognized and taught. Because teachers vary in their backgrounds and beliefs, and may lean toward secularity, our discussion begins by distinguishing and separating spirituality from religion—unchurched spirituality. Although related, religion is a physical institution in our material world, conducted in buildings and led by people of authority. Conversely, spirituality is not physical, has no buildings nor is it defined by groups. It is individual and conveyed through direct personal experience. Today, spirituality can be found via philosophy, science, medicine, psychology, love, marriage, music, art, even sports. Almost any path expressing the wisdom and love of Truth, may lead to the spiritual experience. The Nobel Prize laureates of quantum physics, discovered that our physical reality is derivative of consciousness; ergo, when we raise our consciousness, we enhance our reality. As self-evolving creatures, humans are endowed with the gift and free will to determine our destiny. However, the process of raising our consciousness is found beyond the flesh of the body and the rambling chatter of the mind. It is found within the spiritual domain of the Soul—the source of being within the human being. The spiritual cannot be taught nor learned. Unlike science that is communicated through math, or religion spoken through words, the spiritual becomes known through direct personal experience. Simply stated, the spiritual is that which registers within the human experience beyond the physical and psychological. Spirituality drives our search for purpose and meaning. It is within the context of this search that we transcend our physical limitations. Here we discover that there is more to being human than meets the eye. In the words of the Sages: At our very core, all of humanity is on the same quest—the quest for Truth—Absolute Truth. From the beginning of time to the present moment, humanity has been in constant pursuit of discovering the truth about our being and the reality in which we find ourselves. This is spirituality’s overarching message—when we find Absolute Truth we will be in Ultimate Reality. It is the truth that we have experienced that determines the reality in which we live. Wise people live in a different reality than the foolish. Happy people live in a different reality than the depressed. And people who lie and cheat do not live in the same reality as those who are honest. It is our wisdom and virtue that determines our reality. Once The Epiphany tracks the evolution of humanity’s collective consciousness and the form it has manifested, we focus on individual consciousness—self-knowledge. Here, the book introduces the process enabling us to elevate our own consciousness—the spiritualization process: digesting more spiritual knowledge to increase understanding and expand our awareness thereby amplifying our spiritual perception and enhancing our spiritual experience toward spiritual-realization. This is the quest toward discovering our spiritual nature. Although The Epiphany is highly informative, its method is experiential. The Epiphany was designed and written with the ultimate purpose of guiding the reader toward having a spiritual experience which is uniquely their own—Guiding the Mind toward Discovering the Soul.
